Turning Red is an American computer -animated film , releasedinMarch 2022, produced by Pixar Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures . The film is directed by Domee Shi. The film has the voice of Rosalie Chiang, Sandra Oh, Ava Morse, Hyein Park, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Orion Lee, Wai Ching Ho, Tristan Allerick Chen, James Hong.



Set in Toronto in 2002, the film follows Meilin "Mei" Lee, a 13-year-old Chinese-Canadian student who is horrified to discover the ability to transform into a giant red panda at any time. She fell into a strong emotional state. Inspired by Shi's experiences in Toronto, the film began development in 2018 after she presented it to Pixar in October 2017.

It was released in theatrical release in countries without a streaming service. Originally intended to be released in theaters worldwide, however, due to the complicated developments of the COVID-19 epidemic, the change was made. It was the first Pixar film directed by a woman alone, the first to take place in Canada, and the second to feature an Asian protagonist after Up . The film received critical acclaim for its story, humour, animation, and culture of use.
